Tiruvannamalai Temple

Tiruvannamalai Temple

Tiruvannamalai Temple or Arunachaleswar Temple consists of 9 monumental Towers,a big mountain behind the Majestic Temple of Tiruvannamalai.

One fine morning, after 2 hours of travel from Tindivanam, I reached Tiruvannamalai. white clouds playing Hide and Seek with a Hilltop of the big mountain. Tiruvannamalai Temple comprises an area of 80%, a 14 km round road was constructed around the mountain. It is a pathway to walk around the mountain. People and devotees will be  taking rounds over the pathway.

Story of Tiruvannamalai

There was a conflict between Brahma and Lord Vishnu. The motive of the conflict is to challenge themselves and to see who is high and who is powerful. So they went to Lord Shiva to clear this doubt. He told both of them that “ let’s see who is powerful, if you see my head “you are the winner Brahma”, if you see my feet, ”you are the winner Lord Vishnu”.Brahma and Lord Vishnu accepted this challenge and participated in ferocious manners.

Defeat

Shiva’s head is growing higher and higher than earth. It is going beyond the Universe, so Brahma transforms into a bird and starts flying higher and higher in order to see the Lord Shiva’s head. Same on down, Lord Shiva’s feet aren’t reachable and Lord Vishnu didn’t see Shiv’s  feet. Lord Vishnu accepted his defeat that he can’t see Lord Shiva’s feet. Moreover Brahma didn’t accept his defeat. Either he told Lord Shiva that he saw the head.

Form of fire

There was a flower coming from the top. Brahma saw that and said,” you are the evidence, you should tell to Lord Shiva that I saw Lord Shiva’s head”. The flower also lies the same to Lord Shiva . Lord Shiva punished Lord Brahma by saying   “ you will not have any kind of temple on Earth”. Lord Brahma and Lord Vishnu accepted that there is no greater force than Lord Shiva. Finally Lord Shiva becomes a form of Fire on the top of the mountain. So only people are celebrating Karthigai Deepam in Tiruvannamalai and in Tamilnadu.
